The Western New Mexico volleyball team continued their dominance over visiting Oklahoma Panhandle State University, defeating them in three games (30-12, 30-11, 30-13) Saturday afternoon in Silver City. WNMU also had a sweep of the Aggies Friday night.
The win boosts the 'Stangs to 22-4 and 9-1 in Heartland Conference action; while the Aggies fall to 0-29, 0-10. The Lady Mustangs have sealed the HC top spot and seek to continue their winning ways well into post season play.
WNMU had four hitters hitting over .500: Jennifer Snowbarger (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa High School) with .571, Kristi Herrington .714, Janiel McNeill (Thatcher, AZ/) .769, Stephanie Higgins (Biggsville, IL/) .552. Higgins paced the 'Stangs with 20 kills and 12 digs, both match highs. McNeill had an excellent day as she marked 11 kills in 13 attempts with only one error. She is currently in the top 10 for hitting percentages and looks to gain a couple of spots after this weekend's matches.
Sophmore, Courtney Heiser (Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza High School) had 26 assists; Gadsden, NM native, Monique Gomez (Gadsen, NM/Gadsen High School) added 17 in the third game alone.
Val Armstrong led the Aggies with 6 kills. Molly Woodhall collected 14 assists. Defensively for OPSU was Lacy Jones with 8 digs followed by Kirbi Twilligear who posted 7.
The Lady Mustang volleyball team will be back in action on November 4 and 5 to face HC opponent St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX.
